I'm mostly vegetarian too, and thankfully our families accept that I will just eat the vegetables/bread/other side dishes without being offended if I won't eat the meat. It's harder when you are sharing a meal with people who do take personal offense and keep pushing meat on you. I'm glad that Mr. G's family isn't like that for you!!! The holiday is about being together and being thankful, no matter what is on the plate.

This mostly vegetarian household just went for traditional minus the meat. The side dishes are our favorite parts of Thanksgiving anyway. Cornbread dressing, potatoes, butternut squash soup, braised leeks, cranberry sauce.

It's easy for us, though, because we don't go back home for Thanksgiving. Christmas is harder: my family food is excellent but meat focused; his family food is terrible mostly vegan. I still eat meat from time to time, so I usually just give in and eat my mother's delicious ham. Poor vegetarian husband is stuck with his mother's no-salt no-spices no-butter cooking.
